Bend is yet again at the top of a few lists of “work from home” cities. While a hot topic on both sides of the real estate discussion, I don’t see this slowing down anytime soon. With the high desert climate bringing 300 days of sun a year, and close proximity to the valley and ocean this is the ideal spot to work from home. In a recent study by Linkedin a whopping 73.5% of job applications made by Bend residents were for remote work!

So how do you get a mortgage when working remote? There is actually nothing more needed aside from confirmation your job role is remote. Once we have that we process the the mortgage as normal, allowing all programs, terms and underwriting guidelines to remain the same as any other transaction would be. This also affords a great opportunity to purchase multi-family housing and “house hack”. You can owner occupy one unit of a multi-family, and use the other units rents to offset your out of pocket costs. But the big kicker to this is that you can use future rents from the non occupied units too add to your income. This also will allow you to help contribute more private landlord units to the rental pool in Eastern Oregon which has been a concern over the years.
